Celebrate Winter and Welcome in the New Year with Some Fine Art
My friend took a magical walk one winter day in Massachusetts Berkshire Mountains. At one point the scene was bathed in blue light. Farther along, the area was all peach colored. The next area was imbued with a golden amber light. I chose to paint the blue winter scene for her.
Winters in Jackson Hole, WY are both beautiful and brutal. I have sketched these mountains during a couple of summer visits. I found some photo reference for the winter mountains, the snow drifts, the buffalo and aspens. Then I created this scene.
Worship of a reindeer goddess is common among reindeer herding people, such as the Nenets of Mongolian. Maybe our Santa Claus was originally a female deity.
Lily, my cat, poses in my studio during a winter storm. She seemed to like the attention, or the flowers, or both, as she took this exact post several times during the afternoon.
The lion and the lamb lay together in peace on a snowy bank. Winter fades as the first green of spring rises out of the snow. The storm is over and the clouds are beginning to clear.
Birds fly in the snow storm to this brightly jeweled feeder.
